News and Updates With KTC

The KTC board met November 9,2003 at Camp Hammond located near Topeka, Kansas. The board members present were: Olivia Huddleston, President, Jim Copeland, Treasurer, John Haynes, Susan Haynes, Harriett Barber, Mike Goodwin, Steve Garlow, Ken Miner, Lyle Riedy, Trish Cleveland. Guests were Dale Swaygart(Park Manager at Eisenhower State Park) and Ed Detrude with the Kansas Dept of Wildlife.

• President called meeting to order.
• The minutes of August meeting were approved.
• Treasurers report and investments were discussed, dividend comparison of Vanguard Hi Yield, USAA Inc, Janus Fund. The question was asked we would want to invest into an income generating or keep some in Capital Appreciating (non-income generating). A committee was formed of Treasurer Jim Copeland, John Haynes and Mike Goodwin to research and come up with a investment plan. Approved by board.
• Earn Your Dirt Program, presented by Ken Miner asking for yearly funding and support of $1500-3000. Steve Garlow suggested possible consideration in the 2004 budget, defer to committee for discussion, committee consisting of Mike Goodwin, Lyle Riedy, and Steve Garlow. The same committee will also research and discuss standard for new trails or added trails, possible use of interest of the "George Latham" grant. Also discussed were the proposed multi-loop hike and bike trail at Eisenhower State Park, where help in the loan of tools, assistance in laying out trail, has been requested.. Motion to provide $1000.00 administered by above committee be available immediate, for new trail at Eisenhower State Park, motion by Ken Miner, seconded by Lyle Riedy. Voted by board, 5 for, 3 against, and 1 abstaining. Motion carried.
• Motion to adopt Mission Statement and Statement of Purpose for Kansas Trail Council, seconded by Mike Goodwin. Discussion of 2003/2004 Plan, and other potential projects.
• Ken Miner proposed acceptance of "George Latham Trails Legacy Grant", with a discussion in concept, with details to be finalized by Trail and Budget committee. Second by Lyle Riedy, motion passed.
• New Business.... Election of Officers

• Report from Treasurer on various funding.
• Discussion on Boy Scout week-end, January time frame, web master, newsletter, Camp Wood invited us to have a meeting at Camp Wood
• Clinton Lake and George Latham trails discussed, Perry Lake Bike Trail,, work has started on a 5 mile extension, the hope is to have it completed by March 1st Tuttle Creek Trails, hope to combine Randolph and Carnahan at some time in the future.
• Announcements: Ken Miner will represent KTC at a Economic Development with Comanche county.

Date & Location of next meeting- January 18, 2004 at 12:30pm ( no potluck,, snacks only) at Eisenhower State Park, in the shop building.
