In 2014, the Kansas Trails Council began a collaboration with Shawnee County Parks & Recreation and Westar’s Green Team to design and build a new trail system in Skyline Park. The new trails consist of four connected loops: Summit North (1.5 miles), Summit South (.6 miles), Sunrise (1.3 miles) and Sunset (.9 miles). The Summit trails meander through tallgrass prairie and climb both of the highest points in the park. From the north summit the whole city of Topeka can be seen. The Sunrise and Sunset loops leave the prairie and wind through forested areas in the south areas of the park. The Kansas Trails Council is collaborating with Shawnee County Parks & Recreation and Westar’s Green Team to design and build a new trail system in Skyline Park.
The main trailhead is on Skyline Parkway on the east side of the park (see map).
